WL 2017: Poland couldn’t tame Renan – Brazil on top of Group 1, ’Red Dragons’ burn Argentina

World League record holders in number of titles (nine) Brazil overpowered Poland in Pool E1 (Week 2), 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19) in Varna, Bulgaria, to go to the top of Group 1 with 4-1 and 13 points. On the other hand, Polish NT suffered their third loss, second in a row, to put themeselves in pretty difficult position in terms of qualifying to the Final Six already in the early stages of the tournament.

Renan Buiatti, opposite who will play for Superliga newcomers Sesc Rio de Janeiro next season, topped Brazil with 18 points, while Asseco Resovia Rzeszów middle blocker Bartłomiej Lemański made 9 for Poland.

Belgium continued their notable campaign by defeating Argentina 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 24-26, 15-6) in Pool D1 in Tehran, Iran. ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle bomber Sam Deroo shined with 19 points for the winning team, while Diatec Trentino member Simon van de Voorde added as much as 7 kill blocks! Santiago Darraidou, Ciudad Vóley opposite, scored game-high 23 points. The ’Red Dragons’ settled at third place in Group 1 with 3-2 and 10 points.
