Argentina

Argentina and Brazil have a long history of rivalry in sports. No wonder each win of any of them has a special place in the hearts of their fans. But, the victory of Argentinian Men’s Volleyball NT over Brazil in the 2nd Round of Week 3 of the 2017 FIVB World League by a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19) truly is special in terms of statistics.

In front of packed stands in “Orfeo Superdomo” in Córdoba (13,150 spectators), hosts Argentina took first-ever win against fierce rivals in the tournament, which occurred after 24 encounters of these two neighbors! It also meant a lot to Argentinian fans since, at the moment, Brazil were Olympic champions, a status they earned last year in Rio de Janeiro.

Julio Velasco’s side, who lost its chances to advance to the Final Six even before this match, outblocked Brazil by 11-3 while the rival team made as much as 33 errors. The opposite Martín Ramos and middle blocker Sebastián Solé (4 kill blocks) led the way for Argentina towards triumph with 13 points each. The opposite Wallace de Souza nailed 18 for the Brazilians.
