“Just a little update on my first few weeks in Cannes. So far, this place has been more than I could have hoped for. It’s always a bit tough the first couple of weeks in a new place, but I have to say that the beautiful city and great volleyball program have allowed me to adjust quite nicely!
The city of Cannes is unmatchable with it’s beautiful beaches and wonderful shopping. The weather has been nice a lot of the time, so I have gotten to enjoy the beach in my time off. My apartment sits right in front of Cannes Beach, so it’s easy access after a tough training day to just walk a few steps to the water and relax.
You can’t beat that! We usually get a day off a week, so that has allowed me to travel to some nearby cities, like Monaco and Lyon. I am so happy to have gotten here a good month and a half before the season starts so that I could get to know my new home really well. It’s always nice to feel adjusted before volleyball takes over for the next eight months. We have both the French league and Champions league games, so our schedule will be pretty compact by November.
We haven’t had a chance to get our whole team here yet due to the World Championships being held in Italy this month (three of our players are in the tournament with their respective national teams). So, the training has been individually focused and allowed me to really work on some things without the pressure of a full squad here.
We have been pushing our bodies a lot in the weight room and doing some cardio a few times a week as well. We spend a few good hours in the volleyball gym everyday with only one day off a week, so I really feel in top shape. I am so excited to start the season on October 24th. This week, we’ve finally started playing some friendly matches since most of our team is arriving now. We can put together a system, and that’s when the real fun starts.
I am so honored to be playing in such a prestige society. I look forward to the start of this season and making more memories in my volleyball career.”
