The year came to a bittersweet close for volleyball fans in Dresden as SSC Palmberg Schwerin swept DSC Volleys 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22). A packed Margon Arena with 3,000 passionate fans wasn’t enough to lift the home team as Schwerin’s unrelenting focus and precision sealed the match.
For Dresden, it was a night of missed opportunities and frustration. Despite bursts of resilience, costly reception errors and struggles in defense gave Schwerin the edge. “We looked like a team resting on its laurels after recent wins,” admitted Dresden’s coach Alexander Waibl. “Schwerin came here determined, and we didn’t match their intensity. It hurts, but we’ll learn from this.”
Elles Dambrink led Schwerin with 19 points, earning MVP honors. Dresden’s Victoria Demidova tried valiantly with 11 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop the powerhouse from Schwerin, who cut their deficit in the standings to just two points.
Over in Stuttgart, Allianz MTV Stuttgart celebrated a triumphant end to 2024, defeating VfB Suhl 3-0 in front of a lively crowd of 2,251. The match belonged to Charlotte Krenicky, who delivered a stunning all-around performance, dazzling with blocks (4), aces (4), and flawless setting. “It’s the perfect way to close the year,” Krenicky said, beaming after the win.
Meanwhile, VC Wiesbaden snapped their six-match losing streak with a hard-earned 3-1 victory over Schwarz-Weiß Erfurt. Rachel Gomez led the charge with 16 points and an impressive 63% attack rate, helping her team rediscover their rhythm. “It feels so good to win again,” Gomez shared. “This is just the boost we needed heading into the new year.”
