The German Volleyball Federation appointed Massimo Botti as the new head coach of the men’s national team. The 52-year-old Italian has signed a contract through 2028, taking over after Michał Winiarski stepped down late last year for personal reasons.

Botti joins the national program with strong momentum from club volleyball. He is currently in charge of Polish side Asseco Resovia Rzeszów and has built a reputation as a coach who combines tactical discipline with emotional leadership. Speaking about his new role, Botti said he is both proud and highly motivated. “This is an exciting challenge,” he said. “I want to bring my energy to the team and grow together with the players.”
DVV performance director Christian Dünnes believes Botti is the right fit for Germany’s next phase. “He has already shown in different leagues that he can guide teams successfully,” Dünnes said. “His ambition and willingness to fully commit to this project stood out immediately.”
Botti’s long-term objective is qualification for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. In the short term, the focus will be on building a clear playing identity ahead of the Volleyball Nations League and the European Championship. “We have a lot of potential,” Botti said. “Now it’s about turning that potential into consistent performance.”
