VfB Friedrichshafen beat Berlin Recycling Volleys in the German classic, valid for the penultimate round of the 2017/18 Bundesliga, for the fourth time this season and only 4 days after their 2018 CEV Champions League – Playoffs 12 encounter. At the same time, the „Häfler“ remained unbeaten in the 2017/18 including all competitions – 33 wins, 0 losses! Interestingly, these two fierce rivals will meet again already on March 22, in the Champions League rematch.
Friedrichshafen coach Vital Heynen introduced a mixed lineup, leaving several starters out. Actually, only American Scott Kevorken, the Pole Bartłomiej Bołądź and Markus Steuerwald took their places in the lineup. BR Volleys coach Stelian Moculescu could not count on his starting opposite Paul Carrol. The Australian did not travel with the team.
Interestingly, Friedrichshafen backup libero Thilo Späth-Westerholt played as an outside hitter today and topped his team with 15 points (3 kill blocks).
