In an away match valid for the first round of the 2019/20 Serie A regular season, which was a repeat of the last season’s play-off quarter-finals, Scandicci had to cancel more than one match point against Casalmaggiore in the fourth set before emerging victoriously at the tie-break: 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 21-25, 32-30, 12-15). Even 24 points from Cuban Kenia Carcaces and 7 kill blocks from Serbian Mina Popović were not enough to push Casalmaggiore to the win. Popović’s compatriot Jovana Stevanović made 5 kill blocks for Scandicci, while the Dutch Lonneke Slöetjes was their top scorer with 17 points.
There was another tie-break in matches held on Sunday. Il Bisonte Firenze recorded a home win against Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio thanks to 19 points from Alice Degradi and 6 kill blocks from Sara Fahr. Puerto Rican Daly Santana made an impressive 83% reception (13 digs, 62% perfect).
Banca Valsabbina Millenium Brescia’s outside hitter Camilla Mingardi made the best scoring output on Sunday but also in the entire Round 1. She chipped in 29 points in a four-set win of her team against a nine-player squad of the visiting side of Golden Tulip VolAlto 2.0 Caserta (newcomers in the top division). The defensive display of Mingardi’s teammate Francesca Parlangeli is also worth mentioning. The libero of Brescia made 95% reception (19 digs, 42% perfect)!
