With less than 48 hours until the debut, Valentina Arrighetti only survivor, along with Lucia Bosetti, from the 2009 continental triumph, shared her thoughts:

“In this European Championship, as always, we will face very strong teams. In the group stage perhaps we will not face first level teams. However, we must not underestimate them and I’m sure we will not make that mistake. Our objective of the initial three games is to grow for the crucial games, when we must not make mistake”.

The Italian middle blocker continues:

“Compared to previous years, there are many new players who have appeared onto the stage. More than on integration or a generational shift I would like to speak of a revolution. The squad is almost entirely new, but the enthusiasm does not lack. Several young players are really talented and I enjoy working with them so much. I’m sure they will grow. It was especially evident in the Grand Prix Final Six. I think playing against the teams like China, Brazil, Serbia, the United States and Japan has been a very important experience for new players who are part of this squad. Even the level of individual improvements was evident”.

The debut of Mencarelli’s girls is scheduled for Friday, September 6, when they will face the Swiss hosts, at 18:00 hours.
