In an electric night at the Allianz Cloud, Numia Vero Volley Milano put on a masterclass performance to defeat Savino Del Bene Scandicci in straight sets (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) in Game 1 of the Serie A1 Tigotà Semifinals. Backed by a loud home crowd of 5,259 fans, Milano looked unstoppable and now holds a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
The spotlight belonged to Paola Egonu, who fired in 23 points and was deservedly named MVP of the match. Egonu’s powerful hitting and sharp execution were too much for Scandicci’s defense to handle. She was supported by a well-rounded team effort — Daalderop added 10 points, Sylla chipped in 8, and Kurtagic anchored the net with 3 blocks and 7 points overall.
Despite a fast start from Scandicci — who jumped ahead 6-1 in the opening set — Milano responded with composure and firepower. Once they leveled the score, there was no looking back. Coach Marco Gaspari’s squad struggled to find rhythm and consistency, especially during key points. Star opposite Ekaterina Antropova led Scandicci with 17 points, but her team faltered under pressure.
Statistically, Milano outshone their opponents across the board:
- Attack efficiency: 50% vs. 37%
- Winning blocks: 8 vs. 3
- Reception accuracy: 56% vs. 50%
As for Scandicci, it’s back to the drawing board. They’ll need a much stronger performance in Game 2, which takes place on Sunday, March 30 at Palazzo Wanny in Florence. With home advantage on their side, they’ll look to even the series and stop Milano’s momentum.
