Italy's Dragan Travica said Italy enters the semifinals ambitious but humble after the hosts beat Australia 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-21) in the FIVB World League on Friday evening in front of a passionate crowd.

“We take every match one by one, so we weren’t thinking about the semifinals. Everyone had chance to play today, we used some players who didn’t play in the other match, and they did very well, they integrated. We are very happy to have the victory, and we are ambitious to win this tournament, but we will stay humble.” said Travica.

Italy’s Simone Parodi added:

“We had a lot of fun today. We played a good team in Australia, but now that we have won, we feel confident.  We weren’t expecting Brazil in the semifinal, but we must remember Iran is an amazing team. We should stop talking about them as a surprise, because they are a very consistent team.”

Australia captain Aidan Zingel said that the experience had been a good one for Australia.

It’s all positive for us, being here. The real highlight of our season was winning the games to finish top of pool B and getting to the final six.We showed here that we can compete with the best teams. We are at a high level. We have great attackers, but today we struggled on reception. But we will bring a positive attitude into the World Championships.”
