The North, Central America, and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) has deferred games in the Pan American Final Six Cup due to the adverse weather conditions arising from Tropical Storm Franklin. This storm is presently impacting the Dominican Republic, leading to significant safety concerns.
Following a presidential decree which categorizes the period starting from Tuesday afternoon as non-working due to the impending storm, the Dominican Volleyball Federation and NORCECA jointly decided to halt the tournament. This action was underscored when military personnel arrived at the sports complex. After consultations with volleyball officials, a collective decision was made to suspend the ongoing match between Cuba and Canada during its third set.
NORCECA’s president, Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, indicated that if weather conditions are in line with current predictions for Wednesday, the Final Six Cup tournament is slated to resume on Thursday. The day will begin with the completion of the interrupted matches from Tuesday (Canada vs. Cuba and the Dominican Republic vs. Puerto Rico). The subsequent matches for the day will then proceed in the afternoon and evening.
Marte Hoffiz has also assured that timely updates will be issued today to keep fans and participants apprised of the international event’s status amidst these weather challenges.
