The third set was another war of nerves, tied 22 times before the Dominicans edged it 33-31.

With Pedro Molina and Jamal Ellis leading the charge, Puerto Rico turned the tide in the fourth, winning 25-22, and carried that momentum into the tiebreak. Fueled by a roaring home crowd, they took an early 3-0 lead and closed the match 15-11, sealing a landmark victory.

Earlier, the United States also endured a five-set thriller against Mexico (22-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13).
