The biggest damage was produced by the attack of Diana Arrechea (22) and Mary Martinez (20) to prevail in tough contested game that extended to almost two hours. Danna Escobar added 13. For the losers the opposite Angela Leyva (15) and Izabot Bravo (11) were the only with double digits.
The Brazilian Mauro Marasciulo, coach of Colombia, compared the development of the game to a roller coaster. “We know we are at the start of our preparation after two months of vacations, but it is important to take this international exposure with our sight on the world championship”.
The technical director of Peru, Natalia Malaga, considered her opponents had a better command of the game while her team entered with fear. “That’s the worst rival. It also affects us the absence of five players, including our regular setter holder, all left back in Lima to avoid aggravating their injuries.”
Diana Arrechea, Colombia captain, did not hide his joy for the victory. “We should have worked more with the attack and service, but will pay attention to those elements because we came to win a medal.”
The Peruvian captain, Angela Leyva, said that their opponents were more willing to define the points “and took advantage of our lack of concentration.”
