The multiple African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship winners, Al-Ahly SC, will have the biggest international names on their roster in the last decade.
The star of the Puerto Rico National Team, Karina Ocasio, has signed with the reigning champions of Egypt, Al-Ahly. But she’s not the only player of the national team of this Caribbean nation to join the Cairo side for 2022-23 – Diana Reyes did so too. Both players will meet their new teammates in the 10-time African club champions after the end of the FIVB World Championship in the Netherlands in Poland.
Ocasio, now a 37-year-old veteran, has a track record of success with the clubs she represented in her career, but also with the Puerto Rico Women, during which she gained great experience and many awards, such as the Best Scorer of the 2013 NORCECA Championship and Best Opposite Spiker of the 2016 Pan American Cup. Ocasio came to Al-Ahly from a club in her home country, Criollas de Caguas.
As for Reyes, who couldn’t fly with the rest of her national team delegation for the World Champs 2022 because of a hurricane ravaging the entire region of the Caribbean and will arrive in the Netherlands on the eve of the opening match, she’s a 29-year-old middle blocker who also came to Al-Ahly from Criollas de Caguas.
