But the prolific scorer Mora is confident about the future of women’s volleyball in her native country under the current expanding process being developed by the National Federation.
“We do have a lot of talented players with high ceiling to fill and I am sure that with hard work we can elevate our position especially in South America,” Mora said.
The owner of a terrific leaping ability and a strong right arm, Madelaynee surpassed the 50-point plateau four times while playing in the Korean League. Now she is willing to help her fellow countrywomen as much as she can in the upcoming regional competitions.
“I am going to turn 30 in January so I am almost on my way out, but nevertheless I will be there for them whenever I can,” said Mora, who is now playing for Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan.
“I think I can help with my advice and also playing as I did during the Olympic Continental Qualification Tournament,” she added. “I feel pretty optimistic that with everyone pulling together in the same direction we can reach a higher level and possibly play in Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.”
The native of the city of Cali, who has a world personal best later tied by Dominican Republic’s Bethania De la Cruz also in Korea, is also confident about having a positive impact with her Azerbaijan club in the upcoming season.
Madelaynne, who has played before in Argentina and Greece before moving to Korea, started playing volleyball when she was 13 and grew up idolizing Mireya Luis one of the stars of the Cuba’s team that won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 90’s.
“I have been training with Rabita Baku for two months now and making the necessary adjustments to new teammates and new surroundings,” she said.
“For the moment, I am enjoying participating in the FIVB Club World Championship here in Doha,” Mora said. “It has been a great experience for me and for the rest of our team.”
