VERVA Warszawa ORLEN Paliwa defeated MKS Będzin in Round 1 of the 2020/21 PlusLiga regular season.
The team from the Polish capital justified the role of the favorite by assembling a full set of points. However, after two easily won sets, the players coached by Andrea Anastasi had to work hard in the next two: 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 26-24). Będzin couldn’t count on their captain Artur Ratajczak, who sprained his ankle during the pre-season tournament and will be absent from the court for nearly a month.
Michał Superlak was Warszawa’s most prolific player in the match. He scored 19 points (5 kill blocks) against the club from which he came to Warszawa during the summer. Bartosz Kwolek served 5 aces. Rafał Sobański tallied 22 points for the losing side.
Jastrzębski Węgiel needed five sets to surpass Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie. The match lasted for more than two and a half hours (157 minutes)!
