Passionate Polish fans will welcome the best men’s volleyball clubs in the world following the confirmation of Poland as the new host of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship from December 11-17.
The tournament will be a great spectacle with a new format. Pool play will be played in two cities from December 11-14 before the top two of each pool head to another city for the semifinals and finals. Add to that a legends match featuring former top volleyball stars and an end of year volleyball gala and the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship 2017 will be a week-long extravaganza of volleyball.
The best eight clubs from around the world will participate, including the champions of South America, Europe and Asia, the league champion of the host country – Poland – plus two league champions from the top countries in the FIVB world ranking as of December 31, 2016 and two wild cards.
The annual event will be in its 13th edition this year, having first started in 1989, with Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro winning the last two editions and three of the last four on home soil. It will be the second time Europe host the tournament after Italy hosted three of the first four editions from 1989 to 1992 before the tournament travelled to Qatar after a 17-year hiatus – and then Brazil for the past four editions.
