The first match in the 2020 Kubok Rossii didn’t go well for Lokomotiv. On Day 3 of the preliminary stage, more precisely in Zone 1, the Kaliningrad club succumbed to Dinamo Moscow in four sets: 3-1 (28-30, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19).

Taking into account the composition of Zone 1, both teams will almost certainly advance to the next stage of the competition given that four of the five clubs from this zone will have a guaranteed place there. Because of the fact that winning such a big match will add more confidence to players for the continuation of the season, both teams entered the match with the strongest lineups. Nataliya Goncharova top-scored for Dinamo Moscow, who share the top spot in Zone 1 with Leningradka (both with 2-0 and 6 points), with 22 points. Ekaterina Evdokimova tallied 17 points for Lokomotiv.

Uralochka-NTMK and a team that left Superliga, Sakhalin, dominate Zone 2 with a 3-0 record each. What separates these two sides is the number of points they assembled so far: Uralochka-NTMK have 9, Sakhalin have 8.

As for the last tournament, Zone 3, Proton and the second division side Severyanka surprisingly occupy the first two spots in the charts:  3-0 each. Proton have 9 points, Severyanka have 8. The reigning champions of Russia, Dinamo-Ak Bars (formerly known as Dinamo-Kazan) are third with 2-1 and 6 points.
