The things pretty much heated up in Kaliningrad, as the visiting side Lenigradka almost stunned champions Lokomotiv. Perhaps, we saw the new world record in women’s volleyball set in this smatch…

In the match of the 8th round of 2021/22 Russian Women’s Volleyball Championship, Lokomotiv hosted Leningradka and almost lost invincibility in the competition. Even though the titleholders beat the Saint Petersburg side already twice this season, both times rather easy, the first encounter of these two in Superliga Parimatch was quite a clash. Leningradka squandered a two-set lead, thus, Lokomotiv remained unbeaten with 8-0 and leaders in the standings.

The Kaliningrad-based club was led today by the Pole Malwina Smarzek: 22 points, seven of which were in the block. Believe it or not, there was a player with more points in this segment in her team – Ekaterina Evdomikova – with 11. Actually, as a team, Lokomotiv set up (we also rubbed our eyes in disbelief) 31 blocks! This might be the new women’s (but also overall) world record for most blocks by a team in a single game…

With the third win in a row, Tulitsa provisionally took over the vice leaders position in the charts, which they might lose in case Dinamo-Ak Bars take three points from the encounter against Proton, on Monday.
