“Is it just the two of them know volleyball in our country?” started Shiipulin addressing this statement to head coach Vladimir Alekno and General Manager Roman Stanislaviv. “I have serious questions about the way the team was formed for the Olympic Games. They did not want to hear any expert opinion from the members of the Russian Volleyball Federation. They bear the full responsibility!”
Then Shiipulin revealed a big secret of the Russia men’s national team.
Just before the Olympic tournament it was announced that Dmitriy Muserkiy won’t travel to Rio due to injury. However, according to some rumors, Muserskiy did not have a good relationship with Alekno and that is why he left the national team. Shiipulin confirmed this!
“Snobbery and the lack of respect toward the players prevented Alekno and Shevchenko (president of the Russian Volleyball Federation) of creating the strongest team for the Olympics, although the head coach promised me that all the best will go to Rio. Team captain (Sergey Tetyukhin) called me in the middle of the night to speak with the leadership of our volleyball federation and with Alekno. There was no time to do that and in the morning Muserskiy left the team camp.”
Still, it was Gennadiy Shiipulin who said two months ago that there is no conflict between Alekno and Muserskiy… Was he trying to keep the good atmosphere inside the team before the Olympics?
