It was confirmed today on the meeting of the Russian Volleyball Federation, while Alekno was well aware that this scenario would happen.
“The question whether I will continue to lead the national team was not discussed today. You have probably all read in the media that I did not have any contract. My work was based on a verbal agreement with the federation. The contract was the least thing that interested me,” said Alekno.
He was then asked if he considers it normal that a head coach works without a contract. This was Alekno’s answer.
“It is just me. Working in the national team must be different than working in clubs. Personally, I think the money is not something that should make you fight for the national team. Do you know what I told the players? If what’s on your chest is less important than what’s on your back than you should not be part of this.”
