In the first match of the fifth weekend in Pool B, the hosts Serbia had no trouble overpowering Bulgaria 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) in just minutes 80 of play. Aleksandar Atanasijevic of Serbia scored 16 points, while Bulgaria’s Tsvetan Sokolov topped the scorers’ chart with 17. The match in Novi Sad was played in front of 4,800 spectators.

Camillo Placi, head coach of Bulgaria: “More than impression from the match, this is reality and it’s not satisfying. Serbian Team played well and we played bad, not too bad, but still enough to lose the match. The attack that was good and the spike made the difference that took Serbia to the victory“.

Igor Kolakovic, head coach of Serbia: “We thank the spectators of Novi Sad that have supported us once again and made great atmosphere for us to win so easy. All elements that we agreed upon were carried out well and if we keep this rhythm in the next matches I will be more than satisfied“.

Todor Aleksiev, team captain of Bulgaria:Serbia was well prepared and played very well tonight. Still, we can always play better and win or lose. First and foremost, we have to play better and especially on Sunday“.

Nikola Jovovic, Serbia’s setter: “After 4 lost matches we finally played well and concentrated. We had this unexpected crisis in losing those four matches and this was probably our best and smoothest match played until now. We are in good form, rhythm, we rested some and we hope to be able to qualify for the Finals in Italy“.
