After winning all the tournaments they participated in last season (Turkish, European and World Champions), VakıfBank Sports Club met with the media and officially marked the opening and entry into the new season. VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih, board members, technical staff and athletes attended the event at VakıfBank Spor Sarayı.
VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih said: “At the beginning of a new season, we are opening another clean page in the history books that we will fill with new victories. There is no yesterday in sports. We are one of the clubs that knows this best. All the successes we achieved last season were written in golden letters in our glorious history, now we are starting the new season with the same goals”
On this occasion, a special event was held for the legendary captain of VakıfBank Melis Gürkaynak, who finished her professional sports career at the end of last season, and her jersey was placed and “Retired” in VakıfBank Spor Sarayı.
She hand over the duty and responsibility of team captain to the Brazilian star Gabriela Braga Guimarães (Gabi) and said: “I am gladly leaving the captain’s task to Gabi. Gabi is a very special star who can be the best captain for this team with her character, athlete mentality, and talent.”
At this event, the big reinforcement and new star of VakıfBank Paola Egonu was officially presented.
