TUR M: Big Istanbul derby – More flags than fans (VIDEO)

by WoV

Unlike derbies in football and basketball, in which you can hardly find an empty spot on the stands, games between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in volleyball are still being played in front of very small number of spectators.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are facing each other in the quarter-finals of the Turkish Championship, and, according to the official stats, there were only 400 fans watching the first game of the series! Certainly not enough for the big Istanbul derby. Take a look at the part of the atmosphere from the first game.

Fenerbahce will be the host in the next match. Will there be more fans on the stands?

Last year Fenerbahce management decide to stop compete with Halkbank. So, they cut the budget.
Galatasaray management also decide to isolate every branches budget. That means, club wont use football team income for supporting volleyball. Result of this, these two team leave Halkbank and Arkas alone.
The fans dont want to go and watch a team playing for third place.

Turkish natinaol volleyball team is in 31 st place in World and 13 rd place in Europa Rank.

I am with you about real fans. It works different way in Turkey. For example Fener president Aziz Yildirim was following table tennis match while volleyball team playing very important match. Because he is sure that table tennis team would win. And believe or not there were more fans in table tennis match than volleyball match. The president himself hates to lose and fans follow him. I strongly believe that in football teams urgently quits volleyball.

Dear Mohammed, Tunisia is 15th in world rank. Last year, Turkish team has beaten them three times in three matches. Year by year Turkish Leage and national team quality getting better. And stars helps it a lot.
