WCC W: Fenerbahce cruise to victory over Kenya Prisons

Fenerbahce SK Istanbul subdued Kenya Prisons in straight sets in the Women’s FIVB Club World Championship. Seda Tokatlioglu led the Turkish club with 13 points, while Lydia Mayo was the only player of Kenya with double digits.

Fenerbahce received the benefit of 29 points from the opponents’ errors while making only 10 for the entire match. The winners held a 7-4 advantage in blocks and 5-2 in aces.

Seda Tokatlioglu led the Turkish club with 13 points, including five blocks, followed by Mari Steinbrecher who notched 12 with three aces. Paula Pequeno charted eight.

Lydia Mayo was the only player of Kenya with double digits in the scoring charts with 11 points while Everlyne Makuto finished with seven.

The score was close in the early part of the first set with Fenerbache recovering from a 5-3 deficit to lead 8-6 at the first technical time-out. The Brazilian duo of Mari Steinbrecher and Paula Pequeno contributed to a 16-11 advantage for the Turkish club at the second pause. Mercy Moim was one of the bright points for Kenya Prisons. The actions closed with a 25-14 score.

Kenya Prisons enjoyed a good start in the second set with Lydia Mayo scoring with strong spikes. The African club led 8-6 at the first stop. They let the advantage to escape with several unforced errors and Fenerbahce took the lead for good. They led 16-11 at the next stop with Seda Tokatlioglu playing as the sparkplug in her team reaction. The set concluded 25-17.

Two consecutive blocks of Tokatlioglu gave Fenerbahce a 2-0 lead and Pequeno then scored with a soft tip. When Tokatlioglu landed a cross curt from the right side Kenya Prisons called for time-out. Fenerbahce commanded an 8-1 lead and then reduced the intensity as Kenya Prisons improved their performance. The Turkish club led 16-9 at the second TTO and finished in front 25-11.
