Volleyball’s Rising Power in North America

Canada and the United States have seen remarkable growth in volleyball’s popularity, especially among women. In the United States, volleyball is now one of the most popular sports for high school girls. Over 490,000 volleyball players were registered in the previous academic year. Professional leagues also receive a lot of attention. League One Volleyball and Major League Volleyball are constantly reporting growing viewership numbers. Local fans watch volleyball for its dynamic gameplay, keeping them engaged for hours.

Canada has also seen a growing interest in volleyball. The country has earlier hosted the Volleyball Nations League. Its national team also shows a solid performance in major international tournaments. Volleyball Canada CEO Mark Eckert called the co-hosting plan “a landmark moment” for the country.

A Strategic Bid with Commercial and Cultural Impact

Canada and the United States made their bid in partnership with Playfly Sports Consulting and OCVIBE. The huge project was developed and introduced in the Honda Center. The FIVB was impressed with the proposal due to the top-notch infrastructure and overall vision. The competition will focus on fan engagement and inclusivity in order to expand volleyball’s global reach. Fans will have an opportunity to visit music concerts, participate in junior competitions, and watch games in special zones.

Broadcasting and Sponsorship Opportunities

The 2027 Women’s Volleyball World Championship will create commercial opportunities for businesses across North America. The tournament will receive proper coverage by local broadcasters. At least 32 of the 64 matches will be broadcast in Canada and the United States. Local brands will also play a significant role in promotional and sponsorship campaigns. Why not? Both countries have many girls playing the sport, which speaks to many brands. It won’t be a problem to find sponsors for the organization’s needs.

Public optimism is based on the recent data indicating volleyball’s growth in viewership, especially through streaming platforms and social media. Sportsbooks and betting markets are also expected to gain more attention by offering more ways to engage with the sport. The same trend could be observed with basketball and wrestling.

Host Cities and Legacy Goals

Anaheim, California, will host the final rounds. Other host cities haven’t been decided on so far. Both countries are currently discussing potential candidates for the earlier stages of the tournament. The United States is considering Austin, Charlotte, Houston, Omaha, Orlando, Sacramento, and Anaheim. Canada is offering Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Toronto. The entire lineup will most likely be released by the end of 2025.

The championship will last 17 days, with 32 of the world’s best national teams competing in 64 matches. It will take place one year before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, offering both countries an opportunity to build the necessary infrastructure and enhance public interest. FIVB President Fabio Azevedo expressed confidence in the hosts’ ability to deliver a great tournament. Moreover, the organization of the world championships in a new region is an important step to develop volleyball and share its values worldwide. The USA and Canada align with this strategic vision for volleyball’s future.

A Defining Moment for Women’s Volleyball

The 2027 Women’s Volleyball World Championship is more than a tournament. It’s one of the major events for the sport. This time, the world’s top players will compete in North America. Volleyball’s popularity keeps growing, especially among young women in Canada and the United States. Both countries are determined to invest in sports development. So, the decision to host the world championship wasn’t spontaneous. The combination of prestigious competition, commercial investment, and fan engagement can be valuable for Canada and the United States.

Hosting the world championships could only accelerate growth. With this understanding, Canada and the United States make serious plans for the future. The year 2027 will be critical for both countries. Will they make North America a new powerhouse in global volleyball? Will they manage to increase the global interest in volleyball? We are about to see this anytime soon.
