End of an Era: Popiwczak Signs with Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie
After 13 seasons, countless trophies, and a legacy written in gold, Jakub Popiwczak is saying goodbye to Jastrzębski Węgiel. The Polish national team libero has officially joined Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie.
Popiwczak, now 29, joined Jastrzębie as a teenager and grew into one of the league’s most dependable defenders. He helped the club win three national titles, multiple Supercups, and made Champions League finals appearances—all while becoming a staple in Poland’s national squad.
At Aluron, he’ll replace Aussie libero Luke Perry, who’s moving to Italy’s Modena. For Popiwczak, it’s a fresh challenge and a shot at even greater glory.
“Zawiercie is a club on the rise. I believe we can fight for everything, even the Champions League,” said Popiwczak.
Club president Kryspin Baran called the transfer “a huge step toward building a dream team,” emphasizing Popiwczak’s experience and Polish nationality as key advantages.
