Gert Vande Broek, the coach of the Belgian women’s national team, has been handed a one-year suspension by the Disciplinary Council following allegations of psychological abuse from several former players. The decision takes immediate effect but could be deferred if Vande Broek chooses to appeal—a likelihood.
While the suspension may not disrupt the team’s participation in the ongoing Golden League, it poses a severe complication for the “Yellow Tigers” as they prepare to host the European Championships in August and September.
The Board of Directors, in an official statement, affirmed its respect for the Disciplinary Council’s independence and acknowledged the decision. However, the Board will undertake a detailed review of the rationale behind the sanction as they continue to organize a European Women’s Championship.
