France and Italy ensured their progression to the Quarter-Finals of EuroVolley 2023 with convincing victories in the Eight-Finals held at Palazzo Wanny in Florence. Both teams are set for an showdown on August 29th.
Two years after their successful run in Serbia, the French women’s volleyball team clinched another quarter-final spot by defeating Romania in a four-set match (25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23). The French team setting the stage for a face-off against Italy, the current European champions. Lucille Gicquel led the scoring charts for France with 18 points, followed by Helena Cazaute with 15 points.
On the other side, Italy sailed through to the Quarter-Finals with an effortless 3-0 win over Spain (25-23, 25-22, 25-19). Playing in a packed Palazzo Wanny, the Italian squad, led by Ekaterina Antropova’s 17 points, maintained their unbeaten streak with their sixth consecutive 3-0 victory in the tournament. The win sets them up for a crucial match against France, with both teams vying for a spot in the medal zone.
