France, the current Olympic gold medalist, topped Pool D in the group stage of EuroVolley 2023. The French squad secured four victories and suffered a single defeat against Romania.
In their concluding Pool D clash, France outclassed Greece with a 3-0 win. Timothée Carle was the star of the match with 16 points, while Jean Patry supported with 9 points. For the Greek side, Dimitrios Mouchlias and Athanasios Protopsaltis both earned 11 points.
Meanwhile, in another Pool D match, Türkiye triumphed over host nation Israel, 3-0, advancing to the next stage. Top performances for Türkiye included Adis Lagumdzija with 15 points and Emre Savas with 12. Israel’s standout was Tamir Hershko, matching Lagumdzija’s 15 points.
As the pool phase wrapped up, Portugal clinched the second spot in Pool D, followed closely by Romania in third. In the Round of 16, France is set to face Ukraine, while Türkiye will compete against Pool B’s top team, Slovenia. Croatia is poised for a match against Romania, and Portugal will go head-to-head with Bulgaria in other Round of 16 matchups.
