The National Team of Kenya emerged victorious from a challenge against the hosts Cameroon in Round 3 of the 2020 African Women’s Volleyball Olympic Qualifier.

In what was likely a decisive encounter for the place in the Tokyo Olympics, Kenya edged the main threat in the African Qualifier in Yaoundé, the national team of Cameroon, by a 3-2 (25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11) in Round 3.

The win brought the “Malkia Strikers” closer to securing the 2020 Tokyo ticket as they will face winless Nigeria (lost to Egypt by a 3-0, today) in their last duel, in 2 days. So far, Kenya is the only team with a 100% win rate (3-0; 8 points). Cameroon are just behind with 2-1 and 7 points but now nothing depends on them regarding the ticket to the Olympics.

Young outside hitter Sharon Chepchumba Kiprono delivered 30 points for Kenya, while Edith Mukuvilani set up 6 kill blocks. As for Cameroon, an experienced opposite hitter Christelle Tchoudjang Nana scored 18 points.

2020 African Women’s Volleyball Olympic Qualifier – Round 3

Cameroon – Kenya 2-3 (16-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 11-15)

One of, if not the best match ever. Absolutely brilliant play by both sides. Fantastic Final. Reply

ITALIAN CUP M: Trentino drop 2-0 in sets, Lube become first finalists

Trentino really started fast in set 1 and 2 and looked really smooth but Lube's experience and identity showed through when it counted. Bruno found the hot spikers at the right time and Simone Gianellli didnt feed the ball enough to his middles and Russell who hit .680 and zero errors. Both Trentino's other pins received more sets and far lower scoring percentages. Doesn't look like Kovacevic will be back this year to form so the coaches need to be smarter.

Hoping the Perugia/Modena match is as good. Reply
