WCH 2018 M: Italy open World Champs by beating Japan at fully packed “Foro Italico”

The men's World Championship has been officially started by a game at the fully packed Foro Italico stadium.

As expected, the Italian national team has scored a 3-0 win at the start of the championship in front of 11,170 fans!

Gianlorenzo Blengini’s side didn’t have any troubles, especially in the first two sets. In the third, Japan were ahead at the first technical time-out, however, Italy slowly got back into their rhythm and smashed the rival. 

Ivan Zaytsev was the top scorer with 13 points, while Osmany Juantorena and Filippo Lanza 11 points each. Issei Otaka was the only player with a double digit in Japan – 11 points.

The tournament continues on Wednesday, while Italy is playing next game on Thursday (September 13)

Dominican Republic – Slovenia 17:00 CET (September 12)

Belgium – Argentina 20:30 CET (September 12)
