Reigning champions of Serie A1, Diatec Trentino, were once again wounded at „PalaPoli“ gymnasium, this time in four sets, partially 22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19. The series is tied – 2-2! The Cuban Fernando Hernández got all the credit for Molfetta’s win with 19 points. Now, the series returns to Trento for the decisive game, Game 5, on April 3.
The same thing almost happened to DHL Modena. Italian runners-up were losing 2-1 in sets and 10-5 in fourth set, but prevailed over players and fans (3,500 spectators, season record) of Tonazzo Padova to secure spot in semifinals, as the second team besides Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova. The job was a bit easier for Modena, as American Taylor Averill did not play for Padova due to an ankle injury, which he suffered in the last training before the match. The Frenchman Earvin Ngapeth was amazing with 28 points for Modena.
What a comeback of Calzedonia Verona! After trailing 2-0 in series against Sir Safety Conad Perugia, they leveled and are awaiting Game 5 in front of their own fans! The clash is scheduled on April 6 due to Verona’s obligations in the finals of the CEV Challenge Cup. Serbian Saša Starović had 21 points in the winning team.
