Sergio could not believe that they lost the Olympic final. After the last action there were some tears and a huge sadness.

I don’t know how could it happen. We had a match ball and we lost anyway.” – he said.

Regardless of this result, this game was the last time of Sergio in Brazilian team. His career was both most successful and full of sacrifices.

I was 12 years dedicated totally to volleyball. Years full of physical pain and being away from my family. This decision wasn’t easy, but I’m happy now. Thank you for the opportunity to be the part of such an amazing team.

These are only some of his great achievements:

Olympic Championship in 2004
World’s Championship 2002 and 2006
World Cup 2003 and 2007
8 gold medals of the World League between 2001 and 2010.

In addition, Sergio earned countless individual awards, for example he was MVP of the World League 2009 and he took 3 (!) prizes during the Olympics 2004: as a best libero, best receiver and best digger.
