The capacity of the “Arena da Baixada” in Curitiba (home of the football club Atlético Paranaense), where the Finals of the 2017 World League (July 4-8) will be held, is about 42,000 seats. But, the organizers plan to close ground level of the stands during the matches, which will reduce capacity to approximately 30,000 people of which 22,716 will be accommodated in the rest of the stands and another 3,148 in prefabricated stands on the lawn, in addition to cabins for sponsors.
The “Arena da Baixada” has already hosted a volleyball match. Brazil and Portugal met in a friendly match that was also a farewell match of the Brazilian Men’s National Team libero Sérgio Santos ‘Serginho’, after the 2016 Rio Olympics. The success of this has motivated organizers to do it again, but now on a higher level.
Brazilian volleyball legend Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho ‘Giba’, who now lives in Curitiba where the Final Tournament will be played, took responsibility for organizing the event along with Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV).
