The Polish side Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie presented an official complaint for a bottle thrown on the court during the CEV Men’s Volleyball Champions League match against Turkey’s Halkbank.
Last week’s CEV Champions League Volley 2023 | Men duel in Ankara between Halkbank and Aluron won’t be remembered only for an exhausting battle that lasted for nearly three hours but also for an incident from the home team’s fans. One of the 5,500 spectators from the TVF Başkent Voleybol Salonu’s stands threw a bottle full of liquid onto the court, luckily missing Aluron’s players, to whom it was obviously intended, during one of the numerous moments of tension and complaints from players and coaches during Pool B’s match, in which Halkbank prevailed.
Triggered by the lack of any reaction from the referees and supervisor, Aluron lodged an official complaint to the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) after the end of the match, stressing that “we expect the persons supervising the conduct of the competition to perform their duties with due diligence and treat the health and safety of the participants with the highest priority.”
The incident in the Turkish capital wasn’t the only incident in European cups last week, as Maccabi Yeadim Tel-Aviv supporters did an even more dangerous thing during an encounter against Omonia Nicosia.
