Stelian Moculescu took over German side Berlin Recycling Volleys just before the 2018 CEV Champions League clash against titleholders Zenit Kazan. He could not imagine the more difficult return to the tournament after two years than this.
“I am happy with our performance we delivered today. We knew whom we were going to play. Zenit Kazan dominated us in the first set, but we got better in the third and fourth sets. For the few days we have been working together, this match is a sound basis we can build on. There is not that much I can do except to speak with the players. For the upcoming matches, we have to improve in reception first and attack,” the most-titled German coach ever stated after the match.
“It was a good match. We played very well in the first two sets and gave the younger players the opportunity to play in the following ones. However, we came back when we needed to,” Matt Anderson, the U.S. outside hitter from Zenit, said.
