The German players celebrated their first victory in the second game at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championships.
In Pool D in Ljubljana (Slovenia), Germany beat Cameroon, dominating for a large part of their second match in the World Champs 2022. The Africans clearly aren’t a world-class team but are a physically strong team with great enthusiasm, which was put out in the first set in which Germany needed to take 30 points to open the encounter with 1-0. After the opening defeat against France in which they failed to break a head-to-head negative record, it was important for the German team to win against Cameroon in order to stay alive for a progression to the knockout stage, and that exact imperative held them back in this period. Later, it all settled down.
Moritz Reichert tallied 15 points on the winning side. Julian Zenger made 73.33% reception (11 successful digs and 4 attempts out of a total of 15). Now, Germany is on a par with France and Slovenia in the charts (3 points all) with the other having a mutual clash tonight.
After they swept Bulgaria in their second match in Pool C in Katowice (Poland), only some arithmetical combinations stand in the way of the United States to definitely qualify for the Round of 16. They are 2-0 and 6 points at the moment. On the other hand, Bulgaria suffered a second loss in a row. Thus, the ‘Lions’ remained without a victory in the championship and with minimal chances to advance to the elimination phase.
Things today could’ve been different for Bulgaria if they’ve taken advantage of one of the three set balls in the third set (they were up by 24-21). Torey DeFalco tp-scored the USA with 13 points. Micah Christenson had 4 blocks – impressive for a setter. Tsvetan Sokolov grounded 15 points for Bulgaria, while Aleks Grozdanov set up 4 blocks.
