Polish National Team had to sweat a lot to outplay China in Pool E after winning first set with a nearly perfect display. The Poles have finished the match in style as they dominated over Asian side in the tie-break 3-2 (25-13, 18-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-8). ONICO AZS Politechnika Warszawska receiver Bartosz Kwolek, whose nickname is the „Little Kubiak“ (no further explanation needed, right?), poured 24 points of which 5 were aces! Recall that Kwolek led his national team to the title in the CEV U20 European Championship last year. In China, Jiangsu receiver Yu Yuantai made 12 points.
In the same pool, Cuba inflicted first defeat to Iran in the tournament. It took them five sets to do so thanks to 20 points from a receiver who has just returned to his homeland after spending a season with the Greek Panathinaikos Athens, Osniel Melgarejo, and 17 kill blocks of a whole team. Kalleh Mazandaran duo Rasoul Aghchehli and Esmaeil Mosaferdashliboroun topped Iran with 18 points each.
As for Pool F, Russia outclassed Argentina 3-1 (25-23, 25-15, 27-29, 25-19). Dinamo Moscow opposite Dmitriy Yakovlev led „Zbornaya“ with 24 points while Ciudad Vóley receiver Jan Martínez Franchi scored 18 for the South American side.
Brazil worked hard for a win against Canada, 3-1, being pushed by Minas Tênis Clube opposite Felipe Moreira Roque who had 19 points. In Canada, University of Alberta receiver Taryq Sani collected 22.
