FRA W: Nantes VB keep their feet on the ground

by WoV

Last Monday, October 6, France’s NANTES VB organised a press conference to discuss feelings and expectations as they are just about to start their first campaign in Europe’s elite club competition, the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. The event was held at Golf of Carquetou, a prestigious location where journalists, local authorities as well as representatives of as many as 70 partners all came together for the official kick-off of the season.

The President of NANTES VB, Monique Bernard, addressed a few words to the media combining humbleness with the enthusiasm resulting from the team’s first participation in the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League: “NANTES VB is particularly proud of this achievement since we are the very first team from this city and neighbourhood which makes it to the Champions League in any sport. Last year we had a tremendous season where we ended as runners-up of the national league and also made the final of the French Cup. We are preparing to host some of the best teams in Europe but let’s be realistic and objective. We are the outsiders in this competition and we know we have to combine it with our duties in the national league and national cup as well. We still look forward to the start of this adventure and we are confident that our players will perform well. As they played some friendly matches to get ready for the start of the season, they have showed that they are willing and very determined to win.”
