FRA M: Tourcoing set off alarm in Chaumont with a five-set win at playoff opening

Tourcoing Volley-Ball made a huge upset in Game 1 of the 2017/18 French men’s volleyball championship Ligue A playoff quarterfinals.

No.7 Tourcoing Volley-Ball repeated an upset which they caused to No.2 Chaumont Volley-Ball 52 Haute-Marne in the 2018 national cup finals and defeated them in the opening of the 2017/18 Ligue A playoff by a 3-2 on the road, partially 25-27, 25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 15-9.

The Colombian Ronald Jiménez topped Tourcoing with 19 points, while Julien Lemay made 75% reception (20 digs, 4 errors, 45% excellent). Stéphen Boyer scored 18 points for the defending champions Chaumont, while American Michael Saeta served 5 aces.

Thanks to 29 points from the Dutchman Wouter ter Maat, No.3 Paris Volley defeated No.6 Montpellier Volley Université Club, but only in the tie-break. Jean Patry scored 29 points for Montpellier.

The top-seed Tours Volley-Ball beat No.8 Arago de Sète with ease, 3-0.

The play-off quarterfinals are played in the best-of-three format.
