With a 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-22) win against Berlin Recycling Volleys, VfB Friedrichshafen ensured a flawless premiere at their new home – the Zeppelin CAT Hall A1 – to which they moved after the shutdown of their old arena.

With the victory in the first ‘der Klassiker’ of the season, valid for Round 5 of the 2020/21 1. Bundesliga regular season for men, the ‘Häfler’ tied with the Berlin in the standings (12 points apiece). Friedrichshafen are third, while the team from the county’s capital occupies the second position. Volleyball Bisons Bühl are at the top with 12 points as well but with one less match played.

As for the ‘classic’ itself, Berlin couldn’t count on two starters – the Russian Sergey Grankin and French outside hitter Timothée Carle. Linus Weber top-scored the winning side with 16 points, including 4 blocks, while Markus Steuerwald had 73 % reception (18 % perfect). The Frenchman Samuele Tuia scored 13 points for Berlin.
