Not many BR Volleys fans thought their team can get a 2-0 lead against Friedrichshafen in the 2017/18 Bundesliga playoff finals after 0-5 before the series. But, carried by the packed stands at their Max-Schmeling-Halle (7,552 spectators), the titleholders pushed the back of Friedrichshafen players against the wall and need one more win to clinch their third consecutive national title.

The U.S. international Kyle Russell topped BR Volleys with 19 points. The Canadian Graham Vigrass made 80% attack (8/10), while Australian Luke Perry recorded 85% reception (13 digs, 2 errors, 54% perfect). Daniel Malescha was the best scorer in Friedrichshafen despite the fact he played only the last two sets as a starter.

Game 3 is scheduled for May 2.
