Several Italian media sources, including Gazzetta dello Sport, have reported that Julio Velasco has signed a three-year contract with e-Work Busto Arsizio, marking his return to club-level coaching after a four-year break. Velasco has previously coached several clubs, including Modena, Piacenza, Montichiari, and Jesi, and has served as head coach for national teams such as Argentina, Iran, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Italy. During the 1996-1998 national team seasons, he had a brief stint coaching the Italian women’s national team. Despite previously announced retirement from coaching after his last season with Modena, Velasco’s passion for coaching has been rekindled by the Busto Arsizio project, which focuses on player development, and he has decided to reactivate his career.
In addition, Velasco, who has been the technical director of the FIPAV youth sector since 2019, will fulfill his commitments until September 1st and will attend the May 2nd presentation of the national teams in Milan. Furthermore, Juan Manuel Cichello, Velasco’s former assistant on the Iran bench and the current head coach of Qatari Al Ahli SC, is expected to join his coaching staff.
