Head coach of Italy Gianlorenzo Blengini made the final cut in the roster before the start of the World Cup 2015. He decided to put Giulio Sabbi in the team and to cross Stefano Mengozzi from the list!
This decision n is pretty interesting if you consider that Giulio Sabbi was called to join the team in Japan due to injury problems of Lucca Vettori. It was expected that only one of these two players make it to the last 14, but Blengini eventually decided to play with three opposites (Zaytsev, Vettori, Sabbi) and to waive one middle blocker (Mengozzi).
