The promising project of Milano, at whose helm is one of the best Italian coaches Andrea Giani, successfully opened their 2017/18 campaign as they defeated Serie A1 rivals Biosì Indexa Sora in the first round of the national Cup, 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-19). The newcomers stood out in Milano: the Dutch Nimir Abdel-Aziz made 17 points, while American Taylor Averill added 12. Matteo Piano made 100% attack (8 of 8) to score 10 points. Klemen Čebulj, the Slovenian player from Milano, was sidelined for the match. The Serbian Dušan Petković scored 15 points for Sora. Milano advanced to the next round, the 8th Finals, where they will meet Calzedonia Verona.
Kioene Padova also secured their place in the 8th Finals. They downed BCC Castellana Grotte 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) in the second of the two first-round encounters in total. Luigi Randazzo topped the winning side with 14 points. The Brazilian Djalma Moreira Júnior made 14 in Castellana as well. Padova will play Wixo LPR Piacenza in the next round.
