Not even 40 points of the Pole Bartosz Kurek were enough for the Worlfdogs in the match valid for the 21st round of the 2020/21 Japanese Men’s V.League Division 1 regular season against JT Thunders. The leaders – prior to today – led in sets twice against the 6th placed side but succumbed in the tie-break. Partially, it was 22-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-22, and 15-8 for the Hiroshima-based club for which Australian Thomas Edgar scored 23 points.

Losing the encounter against JT Thunders, the Wolrfdogs lost the leadership as well. They were squeezed down to the 2nd place in the charts by the Suntory Sunbirds. The club from Osaka stormed past FC Tokyo (3-0) and recorded the 9th successive win to which they were led by the Russian Dmitriy Muserskiy (24 points, including 4 blocks).

The vice-champions Panasonic Panthers are definitely in crisis. They lost 3rd match in a row (1-3 vs Toray Arrows; Hungarian Krisztián Pádár 36 points) by which they jeopardized the fight for the top spot but are still safe when it comes to the direct progression for the playoff semifinals given they have 8 points more than 4th placed JTEKT Stings.

Speaking of the Stings, they caught momentum and recorded the 3rd win in a row. Mostly thanks to Yuji Nishida (32 points), the titleholders downed Sakai Blazers in 4 sets and firmed themselves in 4th place in the standings.
