Nicaragua – Suriname

The NORCECA 10th ranked Nicaragua survived scary moments before prevailing against the athletic team of Suriname.

I am still a little bit scared,” admitted afterwards Rene Quintana, coach of Nicaragua. “Suriname has some players who can play at any level. Today we had better luck and our experience also helped.

Nicaragua’s captain Claudia Noguera commented on the big effort they had to make to attain the victory.

It was a very difficult match,Noguera said. “We didn’t have much information about them but I can tell you that Suriname plays hard. We had to play our best to win.

The nervousness betrayed Suriname in the close first set and even though they were able to come back to win the second set the motivation was not there.

The girls were nervous and made mistakes that cost us the first set,” the coach Erick Aikman said. “The first set is important to establish the foundation. We came back but then lost the control. We need to focus better and play harder.

It was not one of the best matches for Suriname according to the team’s captain Cheryl Brunings.

We didn’t have a good start and we have to play hard to make a comeback and I think we didn’t play hard enough.
