The hard-hitting and taller Jamaicans proved to be too much for the Bermudians despite their inexperience.

The home girls improved with the match and finished with a strong performance in the third set when they limited the opposition to just eight points.

We got together as a team after a slow start and the key for the win were our services which caused mistakes to the other team and we capitalized,” Jamaica’s captain Shedeiky Hamilton said.

Jamaica’s coach Gatasheau Bonner was happy to get the first match out of their way and the pressure of playing in front of the local fans.

We have been working very hard with our serves and also with the blocking part of the game,” Bonner said. “After the second set we really came together.

We need to communicate better,” Bermudian Vikky Stevenson said. “It was a tough opponent and it was a step forward for our team.

Coach Juanita Blee said: “We came here not knowing much about Jamaica. Our passing needs to improve and the Jamaicans served exceptionally well. It is our first match and we will improve as the tournament goes on.
