Cuba coach Orlando Samuels Blackwood and his staff are confident that their young and inexperienced squad can turn things around against the European champions on Saturday.
“Tomorrow, we will play better,” Blackwood stated. “I think our players will improve their game level while becoming a little more confident and more consistent. They lacked a lot of concentration (on Friday), but that is something we can fix as the tournament goes on.”
Lian Sem Estrada, captain of the home team, said lack of preparation led them to making some mistakes but he thinks the story will be different in Game 2 “I think we will do better on Saturday night as we never give up right to the end. The audience support is always inspiring. The fourth set was a letdown, but that’s not the Cuban team” Cuba’s regular setter predicted.
Cuba-Serbia starts at 20:40 on Saturday night (00:40 GMT Sunday morning).
